Sugar Cookies (Christmas) Marge Breiwick

3/4 cup butter 1 cup sugar

2 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla

2 1/2 cups flour 1 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. Salt

Mix shortening, sugar, eggs and flavoring thoroughly. Measure flour. Add baking powder and salt together. Sift together. Chill dough 1 hour. Heat oven to 400. Roll dough 1/8" thick. Use Christmas cookie cutters and cut out cookies. Bake 6 to 8 minutes. Yields 4 dozen cookies. My mother made cut-out Christmas cookies when I was a little girl. I would help frost them. I made them for our children with their help. Now I make them for our grandchildren and they help frost them. A favorite tradition.
