Apple Dumplings Sharon Benda
Pastry Crust
2 cups flour 2 tsp. Baking powder
1/4 tsp. Salt ½ cup shortening
4-6 Tbsp. Milk
Apples
6 apples, peeled and cored 1/4 cup
sugar
½ tsp. Cinnamon 2 Tbsp. Butter
Sauce
1 ½ cups sugar 2 cups water
1/4 tsp. Cinnamon 1 Tbsp. Butter
1/4 cup orange juice
Roll out pastry crust and cut into six
squares. Place peeled and cored apple in center of square. Fill cavity of each apple with mixture of
cinnamon and sugar. Dot with butter. Bring 4 corners up and cover apple to encase
each in pastry. Place in 9 x 13"
baking pan. Boil ingredients for sauce
until sugar is dissolved. Pour this
sauce around, not over, dumplings. Bake
in 375 oven for 40-45 minutes until lightly brown and apples are tender.
