Bavarian Apple Torte                        Jan Peterson

1/2 cup oleo                        1/3 cup sugar

1/4 tsp. vanilla                        1 cup flour

 

Cream margarine and sugar until light and fluffy.  Blend in vanilla.  Add flour; mix well.  Spread  dough on to bottom and around sides of 9" springform pan.

 

1 - 8 oz. pkg. cream cheese                        1/4 cup sugar

1 egg                        1/2 tsp. Vanilla

 

Combine softened cream cheese and sugar, mixing well until blended.  blend in egg and vanilla; pour into pastry lined pan.

 

4 cups thin peeled apple slices                        1/3 cup sugar

1/2 tsp. cinnamon                        1/4 cup sliced almonds.

 

Toss apples with combined sugar and cinnamon.  Spoon apple mixture over cream cheese layer; sprinkle with nuts. Bake at 450 for 10 minutes.  Reduce oven temperature to 400, continue baking 25 minutes.  Loosen cake form rim of pan.  Cool; remove rim.  Chill.
