Cherry Torte Jan Peterson
1/1/3 cup sugar 1 cup flour
½ tsp. Salt 1 tsp. Soda
1 tsp. Cinnamon ½ cup walnuts cut
up
1 pound can of sour cherries (save juice)
To the cherries, add 1 beaten egg Cherry
and 1 Tbsp. Melted butter. Mix and add
to the first 6 ingredients. This will
mix hard and seem dry. Spread batter in
13 x 9 inch greased and floured tin.
Will make thin layer. Bake 30
minutes in moderate oven.
Sauce
Prepare sauce of 1 cup cherry juice, pinch
of salt/ ½ cup sugar, 1 Tbsp. Cornstarch, a few drops of red food
coloring. Cook, stirring constantly
until thick. When ready to serve, cut
torte into squares (will make about 12).
Top each with whipped cream.
Pour cherry sauce over top.
